Two Dish Meal

In China, a two dish meal is where a large portion of food is prepared, especially when hosting or entertaining guests! Today, Shannon and I were invited to lunch with some Chinese friends: Yihao, Frank (shuai feng), Chun, Shy yang, and
Tony (ye Liu) the Tea Master! It was wonderful! We were treated with such kindness and honor. The students seemed delighted to have us to their home. All five of them helped prepare a dish and the plates represented regions all over China.

Our conversation was filled with laughter and discovery as we learned many fascinating facts about food, culture, and tea!

Tony is the Tea Master. He steeped and served four different types of tea, explaining where in China it comes from, how it is harvested, and why one would drink different types of tea.

I originally met Yihao and Frank at the International Student Lunch on Wednesdays (1130-100pm) at the Pillar on Monroe during fall term. Frank is from Harbin, China and Yihao is from Inner Mongolia. We eventually invited them to our home for Thanksgiving! After many amazing conversations about life and culture, breaking bread together, and enjoying conversation, perhaps we will set up a weekly conversation time next term.
